Taj Mahal is a white mausoleum built by Shah Jahan
in the memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal, who died while giving birth to
her 14th child. Taj Mahal is a World Heritage Site recognised by UNESCO and
ranks first on the list of the new seven wonders of the world. Taj Mahal is of
great historic importance to India as well as to the world, because it provides
us with a substantial proof about the great techniques used during the Mughal
period and of Islamic architecture. Taj Mahal has been referred by many as the
epitome of love due to emperor Shah Jahan’s affection towards his most
favourite wife, Mumtaz Mahal, whose tombstones are embarked deep inside the
mausoleum, on the banks of the river Yamuna. Many historians and researchers
have termed the architecture of Taj Mahal, as a piece of art. Taj Mahal has
given India a global platform of recognition, and several poets and historians
have written their versus on the beauty of Taj Mahal.
